LONDON. (July 17, 2015) – Since the establishment of a joint partnership between Orphans In Need (OIN – UK) and United Muslim Relief (UMR) in March, over 940 orphans have received support during the first Ramadan campaign. This joyous announcement comes as millions of Muslims across the world mark the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and begin their Eid ul Fitr celebrations.
Using OIN – UK’s network of volunteers across 13 countries, and UMR’s efforts around the world and in the US, the partnership has been able to provide much-needed support and care to hundreds of children in need in just four months.
“We expected great things from Orphans in Need’s partnership with UMR but were amazed to hear that they had supported the staggering amount beyond 900 in Ramadan alone. We are proud to be their delivery partners and will strive to work with them to ensure that these children receive the best care possible.” Tufail Hussain, CEO Orphans in Need
“It is unfortunate that with all the disasters around the world, so many children have lost one or both of their parents. Through this incredible partnership with OIN and the generosity of our donors, we can begin to alleviate and address the needs of some of these orphans.” Dr Abed Ayoub, President & CEO of United Muslim Relief
During Ramadan this year, Orphans In Need was able to help over 3,000 orphans across a network of 13 countries thanks to the generosity of donors and supporters. This unwavering support for helping those less fortunate around the world cements the charitable nature of our communities globally.
United Muslim Relief (UMR) is a registered non-profit organisation in the USA. It was set up by students at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, following the Haiti earthquake in 2010 during which over 220,000 people were killed, 300,000 people were injured and some 1.5 million people were left homeless. This resulted in an immense humanitarian crisis which the group of students are George Mason wanted to help with. Since then, UMR has become one of the fastest growing non-governmental organisation’s (NGO’s) in the US.
The focus of the UMR charity is to build humanitarian coalitions to aid and tackle developmental needs, and to provide healthcare programs to those who need it most in the US and around the world. Their motto is “beyond relief” which echoes their dedication to empowering underprivileged communities and providing them with help so they can alleviate themselves from poverty in a dignified way.
Orphans In Need is a British charity that was established in 2005 to help support orphans and widows in some of the most deprived communities around the world. Whilst OIN – UK is dedicated to alleviating poverty as a whole, its primary focus is on orphans and widows who are often considered the weakest members of society and who bear the brunt of of depravation within communities. OIN – UK works with over 30.000 orphans and widows in 13 countries around the world, including Somalia, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.
Through their child sponsorship programs, they provide long-term care through the form of shelter, food, clothing, education and healthcare. They also finance several poverty relief projects in Asia and Africa, and although the primary focus is on orphans, they do run programs designed to benefit the whole community and break the cycle of depravation.
